Beware The Sexy MetCon
SATURDAY MORNING @. . .
The gym.
WHY WE DON’T DO LOTS OF LONG MET-CONS
If you’re new to CrossFit Athens, you’re probably a little unsure about some things. Like, “Why do we do so much strength training?” And, “Why are the met-cons so short?”
I actually get these questions frequently. To answer your questions I’m going to borrow part of a great article from Melissa Urban at Whole9Life. If you’re not reading her blog, you should be. She’s a fabulous writer, strong as hell and still kicks ass on the met-cons.
“People often make misguided assumptions about CrossFit workouts based on what grabs their attention on paper.

Does this mean no more Filthy Fifty?
I couldn’t agree more. I’m sure for Adam it’s hard to balance this out for everyone since there are so many different levels of abilities and people on different schedules. That’s why I love the Saturday workouts. It gives me a chance (when I’m not playing Mr. Mom) to work on the Oly and strength basics.
You meaning running all the time for 4 hours a day to get in shape is bad for me? What about if I added some bicep curls in?
Spencer, when you come home for Christmas, I’ll probably punch you.
Josh, no this does not mean no more filthy fifty.
How about bicep curls with kettlebells instead of dumbbells? That’s pretty F’ing hardcore. If we’re going to keep doing Filthy Fifty I’m gonna have to rework my supp stack to accomodate. Right now I’m wired for 3 sets of 12 per body part.
::Thwop::
Sucking sound created as Adam removes his shoe from Josh’s gluteus maximus.
300 is def. the Angelina Jolie of Metcons. Sultry but bat s@#$ crazy.
It’s heartening to see that our brethren in Crossfit follow the same Hardstyle philosophy that us hard-core kettlebeller’s do. Typically I find that most people want to do crazy, over the top, cardio based kettlebells. These are fine, in moderation. We typically don’t exceed one “Angelina Jolie” workout per week unless we’re in a strict mode of reduction and that can also be achieved with intelligent hypertrophy training using the “big set” method of lifting.
Rock on Crossfit! Love you guys.
yo! i love the site, but wanna know whats happening! we’re a week 1/2 behind on updates!!! apurate wuey!
