Tough Love canceled

Unfortunately Mother Nature has decided to give us some of her tough love. WODs for today are canceled. Not only are there icy spots on the roads, we have trees down in surrounding counties. See you on Monday!

Evening Classes Canceled

February 12th, 2010 No comments

Yeah, I know there isn’t that much falling, but I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’m already hearing and seeing people spin out at the stop sign in front of the gym. I’m more worried about the idiots who don’t know how to drive in snow and slush than any of you. Depending on what happens with the weather tonight, tomorrow’s Tough Love WOD may be canceled or pushed back to a later time. Check back for details

For those with limited memberships, you will be credited one (1) for next week only.

Is that correct Jersey slang? I don’t know. The following is a little taste of Zach’s full article which can be found here. Definitely long, but worth the read. This ties in great with our previous post “Why do you do it.” On a side note, these few paragraphs explain exactly why CrossFit Athens Strength & Conditioning was founded.

George Hackenschmidt - Not in today's gyms.

Take a look at what society has done to the large number of gyms popping up around the states. Dumbbells are not allowed heavier than 50 lbs and how dare you grunt or use chalk or break a sweat because some ridiculous alarm will go off and you will be removed from the gym. This sounds like insanity to me.

The person who created such a philosophy can not truly go to sleep at night knowing he has done wrong for so many and is now creating a society of straight up weaklings.

Punishment for hard work, that’s the lesson here.
Little do “They” know, that being removed from such a lame ass gym, and I dare stretch my vocabulary and call such a place a “gym”, this is the BEST gift one can get from these places. Removal from a place that supports mediocrity and lackluster effort. In a nut shell, they want you to be weak.

Now this individual will have to hide in his basement, garage or backyard with a 300 lb weight set pieced together from E Bay or Craigs List. He has no bench, no leg extension, no squat rack….. just a raw barbell. Continue Reading

Change it up!

February 8th, 2010 3 comments

Most people eat the same 20-30 meals for their entire life. BORING! CrossFit is all about constantly VARIED movements. There is a reason we don’t do the same workouts every week. It’s boring and your body will stop adapting. Food should be the same way.

We’re now in week 2 of our first ever Paleo Challenge. Some of you probably aren’t taking my advice about trying many of the paleo recipes and are still doing baked chicken and broccoli. Therefore, allow me to introduce this weeks mini-challenge:

Change It Up!
1) Read this article about the 12 super foods you’re not eating but should be.
2) For every new ingredient you try this week, I will give you 1 bonus point.
3) You must record it in your food log and provide a recipe or description of how you used it. Don’t worry, I’ll sneak in a question or 2 at the gym.
4) There is a limit of 5 bonus points only.

Questions? Comments? Post to them to the comments section.
