I swear, the older I get the faster the years go by. Can’t imagine what it must feel like to these guys!

Just kidding! But, seriously though. . .
Okay, it’s that time of year. You will without a doubt be asked by someone what your New Year Resolutions are. Or you’ll be the one asking. Chances are you’re going to hear the same old responses:
“Lose weight!”
“Make more money!”
“Run a marathon!”
“Marry Jessica Biel!”
Okay, maybe that last one’s not for everyone, but I bet I speak for the majority of the fellas out there. Anyway, I hate resolutions.
They never work. How many people do you know at the end of the year that actually lost weight? Zilch. Nada. Zero.
How many people do I know that have lost weight? Oh, about 45. That’s just in 2010 though. The key difference? NO RESOLUTIONS. They set goals. S.M.A.R.T. ones too. They had support groups. They had a plan of action and deadlines.
What’s the difference you ask? Let’s look at the following examples and pick the one most likely to be completed.
Resolution: “I’m going to lose weight.”
Goal: “I’m going to lose 20 pounds by Memorial Day so that I can look good in a bathing suit and feel better about myself.”
Which one would you choose? Yeah, thought so. Always ask yourself the following:
Is it specific? Yep, gonna lose weight.
Is it measurable? Yep, in pounds.
Is it attainable? 20 pounds in 5 months? Totally.
Is it results oriented? Definitely – remember that bikini!
Is it time oriented? Yep, 5 months.
Folks, it’s really that simple to set some good goals, ditch the resolutions and accomplish what you want. If you’d like a little extra help with setting your goals, download your FREE copy of the CrossFit Athens Goal Workbook. CFA_Goal_Workbook.
Oh, and if you do marry Jessica Biel, please at least invite me to the wedding!
