<ul>
<li>Classes start on time! Be here s couple of minutes early to change and do your personal stuff.</li>
<li>If you show up early and start working down the board on your own, you will have to start over again with the next class. So don&#8217;t!</li>
<li>During weeks when there is no on ramp class, there will be no 7:15 class. Just watch the board for reminders.</li>
<li>During weeks when there is a 7:15 class, be early so we can start on time! If there is no one here by 7:20 and you haven&#8217;t contacted us to say you&#8217;re on your way, we will close.</li>
<li>No, we will not let you start on your own. You are part of a class.</li>
</ul>
<p>After a couple of weeks if the current times aren&#8217;t working, we will make adjustments. However, Monday worked pretty well!</p>

<p>Hey folks! We love what we do at CrossFit Athens, and we hope that you love it too. In fact, we hope that you love it so much that you can&#8217;t stop talkng about it to your friends, families and co-workers. Just so that they can get a taste of the kool aid, we&#8217;re going to have some dedicated Bring-a-Friend days.</p>
<p>&#8220;Well don&#8217;t you tell us that we can always bring a friend?&#8221;</p>
<p>I sure do. However it&#8217;s not always practical to have them jump in the WOD without taking a lot of time to teach them the movements, explain how things work, calm their fears of puking, etc. . . The WODs for these days will be designed so that everyone can learn during the warm up and instruction. Simple? Yes. Easy? Um, is it ever? Effective? You bet your buns.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll have some cards up front for you to hand out starting next week. All we ask is that they put their name on it, your name on it (sounds like a contest is shaping up here) and give us a heads up of which time and day they want to come. More on the contest and special prize later.</p>
<ul>
<li>When: February 22, 23, 24 (Tues, Wed, Thurs)</li>
<li>Classes: All of &#8216;em! Well, the evening ones. Unless you want to go at it with Eddie, Mark and Andrea at 6am</li>
<li>Bring: water bottle, and workout clothing</li>
</ul>
<h2>HOLY CATS! ANOTHER CONTEST!</h2>
<p>That is hands down my favorite Robb Wolf-ism. Maybe tied with his pet names for anatomical parts.</p>
<p>We need new shirts! I want you to come up with a design, slogan, picture, layout, whatever of what you think would make a great shirt. You don&#8217;t need fancy software or artistic skills. Just describe it in the comments. You have 1 week. That&#8217;s Thursday, Feb 3 for everyone trying to add 7 days and realizing there aren&#8217;t 34 days in January. Friday &#8211; Sunday everyone will vote on their favorite and Monday we&#8217;ll get the order rolling. The winner gets a FREE one!</p>
<p>Please try and come up with something original. They are a ton of great CrossFit shirts out there to inspire you, but make it unique to us. They can be cute, inspiring, bad ass, rough, complex or simple. I do request that the content be at most PG-13 rated.</p>
<p>Yes ladies, we will be ordering lady cuts as well. No more looking like a big bag.</p>

<p>This Saturday the UGA Rugby team will be squishing some pesky bees (that&#8217;s GaTech for you freshmen) at the club sports complex just off South Milledge. In case you didn&#8217;t know, our own Mark Moore is one of the captains and won man of the match last weekend when they slaughtered Auburn 35-0!</p>
<p>The match starts at 1:00pm. Come join us at CrossFit Athens for Open Gym from 10-12 with a FREE intro session at 10:30. Afterward, we&#8217;ll grab a quick bite to eat (paleo of course) and head over. If you&#8217;ve never been to a rugby match, it&#8217;s a lot of fun! Nothing like big dudes colliding against each other with out pads.</p>

<h2>CROSSFIT ATHENS RECIPES &#8211; Pecan Butter</h2>

Too much coconut oil and it will be very soupy.</p></div>
<p>Since peanuts are technically legumes, and thus non-paleo, here&#8217;s a great alternative. I personally think it tastes better than peanut butter. You can sub pecans for any other nut (no cashews!).</p>
<ul>
<li>1 -3 pounds shelled pecans (not pecan meal! you&#8217;ll burn it in the food processor)</li>
<li>1 tsp &#8211; 1tbsp coconut oil</li>
<li>cooking spray (ideally olive oil)</li>
<li>a little bit of salt</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>Heat oven to 400 degrees.</li>
<li>Place pecans in single layer on baking sheet.</li>
<li>Spray lightly with cooking spray.</li>
<li>Lightly salt them.</li>
<li>Roast in the oven until fragrant, about 6-8 minutes. Be careful though; once they start roasting they can burn very quickly.</li>
<li>Let cool.</li>
<li>Put &#8216;em in the food processor and and chop till a smooth paste forms. It may look and taste a little grainy. If so add just a little bit of coconut oil (tasteless!) to smooth it out. Repeat until you use all of the pecans.</li>
<li>Store in the fridge. It should keep for 2-3 weeks, but mine never lasts that long! Great with carrots, celery, and apples!</li>
</ol>

<h2>MORE CHANGES</h2>
<p>These are small, and I promise they won&#8217;t hurt! Everyday when you come in, please actually read the board! We&#8217;ve been experimenting lately with changing up the warm ups and seeing who actually notices it. Let&#8217;s just say that our newest members are doing great, while some of our vets aren&#8217;t quite so hot. Check it out.</p>
<p>We&#8217;ll also be going back to our sign in system. If this is new to you, it&#8217;s very easy. When you come in, there will be a clip board on the front desk. Write your name on it. Simple eh? This helps us keep track of who was here (and eliminates suspects when there is a huge mess of chalk!).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<h2>SCHEDULE CHANGES</h2>
<p>I told you the changes would be coming. This one is probably the biggest, so we&#8217;re getting it out of the way quickly; like ripping off a band aid.</p>
<p>CrossFit Athens will be transitioning back to a class based schedule starting Monday, January 31. What does this mean? It means no more open style WODs. WODs will be performed during a set time period with a specific coach. The class will start and end as a group. You will have to make an effort to show up at the right time to get it on the time slot you want. We are not going to require anyone to sign up for WODs however.</p>
<p>Please try to show up 5-10 minutes before the class you want to attend starts. This means if you&#8217;re coming to the 6;30, try to be here around 6:20. Everyone has their own individual things they like to do for warming up. This will allow you plenty of time for that. Classes will start promptly at their assigned times. If you are more than 10 minutes late and absolutely can&#8217;t wait until the next class, there will be motivational consequences to serve as your warm up before jumping into the WOD (take a wild guess).</p>
<p>Does this mean you can&#8217;t show up at 6:08 for the 6:30 class. Hell no! Come early and stay late. Work on anything you want to work on. All we ask is that you look at the board and figure out which equipment is being used and reserve it for the class that is going on.</p>
<p>Why are we doing this? A few reasons actually. For you long time members, you&#8217;ll remember that we used to do this a couple of years ago when our membership base was much smaller. I wanted to allow for more flexibility with scheduling and the open model worked nicely. Now that we&#8217;re not so small, it just doesn&#8217;t work very well logistically. There isn&#8217;t enough equipment for 3-4 people deadlifting during the ME component and 3-4 people doing thrusters during the Metcon. People warming up are sometimes in the way of people working out. This will be much safer.</p>
<p>Also, I feel that the quality of coaching has decreased somewhat over the past few months. This is entirely my fault, and this is a move towards increasing it. This means that you will be receiving more attention from the Coach, more direct instruction with regards to the WOD and a better overall experience. The Coach will no longer have to worry about people coming in to warm up and explain things when he should be pushing you to go harder, coaching you on your clean, or explaining how to do a new movement. (Oh yeah, before I forget, warm ups will be changing too!)</p>
<p>This will also provide you, the membership base, with more accountability. If you&#8217;re a regular to the Tuesday, 4:30 class and don&#8217;t show up, you can bet that someone will be calling to check on you.</p>

<p>Okay. So Mother Nature didn&#8217;t really want us to start anything in 2011 last week. That&#8217;s cool. Consider it a mandatory stay-cation. However, Monday starts a new week. Get your butts back in here! Spring break and bathing suit season are only a few short months away!</p>
<p>Students, don&#8217;t forget about the semester specials! They are only available the first month of the semester. After that, tough cookies (or should that say tough steak?). You&#8217;ve got 2 weeks left!</p>
<h3>TIME ZONES SUCK</h3>

<p>Hey folks! I&#8217;m back from an extremely awesome tour of some of the best CF boxes in the San Francisco bay area. Like I said earlier, CrossFit is snowballing into a massive grassroots, politically incorrect, tell-those-aerobics-instructors-to-stick-their-microphone-where-the-sun- don&#8217;t-shine fitness monster. Driving around some of the busier areas in the valley, it seemed like there was a gym, or someone sporting a CF shirt at least every 5-10 minutes. How sweet is that?</p>
<p>After talking with other owners and trainers, experiencing their classes and watching other classes, I have a lot of great ideas that we&#8217;ll be implementing on a trial basis over the next few months. Hopefully these will bring the quality of our box, our classes, our training staff and your enjoyment even higher. Stay tuned.</p>

<h3>CROSSFIT ATHENS NEWSLETTER</h3>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Friends, CrossFit is alive and kicking ass out here on the west coast! So far I&#8217;ve been to CrossFit SV, CrossFit San Francisco with Kelly Starrett and CrossFit Santa Clara (about a 5 minute walk from the room) with Jason Khalipa. As predicted, everyone adds their own flavor to CrossFit and does things their own way. &#8220;Absorb what is useful, discard what is not and add what is uniquely your own.&#8221; One of my favorite quotes from Bruce Lee, and I&#8217;m doing exactly that. Expect changes in the very near future to CrossFit Athens. Some will be very obvious, others will not. All will make the gym more kick ass and you a better athlete and person.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll have pics up asap. Can you believe I forgot to bring the cable that hooks up to the computer?!</p>
<p>Tomorrow we&#8217;re headed to Santa Cruz, the birthplace of CrossFit and to the coast with a nice drive up PCH 1, probably the most beautiful road in the country!</p>
