Why do we do BDay WODs anyway?
Because it’s the best present in the whole world!
Because it’s the best present in the whole world!
Hope the cooler air this morning isn’t catching any of you by surprise.
Well folks, Kyle was right. Josh and I did indeed have a great time at Robb Wolf’s Paleo Solution Seminar! How could you not? With phrases like, “Holy cats!”, “The small intestine is a pretty miserable environment. There’s nothing but poop there.” and my favorite, “By dense protein, I mean it had a face and a soul and you killed it and brought it’s essence into your being.” Robb is indeed my favorite geeky science guy on the planet. He’s also the Paleo Diet Guru. This guy knows more about paleolithic eating than probably anyone else.
For those of you that don’t know about Robb’s book coming out tomorrow, The Paleo Solution, we were all given a free, advanced copy! Now, I’m an avid reader. I read all the time. I’ve read more books about nutrition, diet, digestion, and exercise than I care to think about. Most of them, especially the college texts routinely put me to sleep. I’m about 5 chapters into The Paleo Solution and I want to keep reading. I was nearly late to the gym today! Not only is it extremely informative, but it really is entertaining. If you’ve ever read Robb’s articles, listened to his pod cast or watched his videos, you know what I mean. It’s selling on Amazon right now for under $15! That’s a steal. Go get one!

Of course they used the one where I look like a constipated gorilla!
Robb’s seminar, and reading his book, have really given me the kick in the pants that I needed to get back on the Paleo wagon. Starting today, I’m going to do exactly what Robb asks. I’m going strict gluten, dairy, legume free Paleo for the next 30 days. If at the end I don’t look, feel or perform better, then we’ll know this really is “pseudo science”.
I’m going to be objective about this. Before photos (taken today) will be put up soon along with my daily food log. I’m also going to track the following data:
I’ll put up a specific page on the site so that you can track with me daily.

Mansi dumbbell snatching.

On-ramp warming up.

September On-Ramp gang.
Umm.
Word on the street is that Adam and Josh now think they are bears.
It’s past that time (for Open Gym that is) and I would like to thank Ankur, Ean, Morgan and Chris for making it out today.
Open gym tomorrow is 9am-11am, at the gym.
Kyle here, and yes, I’ve now got control of the show!
I apologize for this not being posted sooner. It was published on Saturday but didn’t show up on the main page.
Change of schedule:
WODs:
4pm to 6pm
On Ramp:
5pm
See you there!
The gym.
If you’re new to CrossFit Athens, you’re probably a little unsure about some things. Like, “Why do we do so much strength training?” And, “Why are the met-cons so short?”
I actually get these questions frequently. To answer your questions I’m going to borrow part of a great article from Melissa Urban at Whole9Life. If you’re not reading her blog, you should be. She’s a fabulous writer, strong as hell and still kicks ass on the met-cons.
“People often make misguided assumptions about CrossFit workouts based on what grabs their attention on paper.
Due to overcrowding problems, doors will begin opening in the afternoon at 4:15 TODAY! First WOD will start at 4:45. Bring it.

Who do you fight for?
Sept. 25 will be a big day for us. We will be participating with more than 600+ affiliates world wide to raise money for LIVESTRONG, The Wounded Warrior Fund, and The CrossFit Foundation. Go to the FGB5 website, sign up and start getting some donations! More info to come soon.
You know the one I’m talking about. When the bar is so heavy you feel like your actually moving the earth. When your lungs are on fire, starving for oxygen, but you’ve only got 3 more burpees. When you’re 400 meters from the finish about to relive lunch and there is no way in hell you’re going to quit; not this close to the end. Check this one out:

Pretty sure that's a PR.

The Paleo Diet - So easy a caveman could. . . wait, he did!
Thanks to Josh for finding this great, FREE video of Dr. Cordain (the author and leading researcher of ) discussing the paleo diet. As Josh said, ” I plugged my mac into my TV and watched the whole series in HD on Sunday morning while folding laundry.
